Fanning the Entrepreneurial Flame: Empowering Grand Bahama’s Next Generation of Business Leaders
Small businesses are the undisputed backbone of the Bahamian economy. They drive innovation, create jobs, and keep communities vibrant. Recognizing this critical economic engine, the Bahamian government has invested heavily in recent years to promote local entrepreneurship, pouring resources into funding, training, and systemic support to turn passionate citizens into successful business owners.
Yet, as any aspiring entrepreneur knows, launching a business requires more than just a great idea. It demands structural support, financial literacy, mentorship, and a resilient foundation.
To help local innovators bridge the gap between inspiration and long-term viability, a powerful new framework is coming to Grand Bahama.
Introducing the Good Success Entrepreneurial Development Program
Redemption Missions NPO, a newly established non-profit organization based in Freeport, is launching its second inaugural initiative: the Good Success Entrepreneurial Development Program.
Rooted in the wisdom of Joshua 1:8—"...for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success"—this cohort-based program is uniquely designed to equip aspiring entrepreneurs with the exact tools, skills, and strategic networks they need to build sustainable enterprises.
Each year, the program will partner with an intimate, highly focused cohort of 10 to 15 aspiring entrepreneurs. Over a structured 10-month developmental journey, these participants will deeply integrate rigorous business strategy with biblical application.
Global Expertise, Local Impact: A Message from Dr. Teo Cooper
At the heart of this initiative is Dr. Teo Cooper, Executive Director and Founder of Redemption Missions. Dr. Cooper brings a wealth of specialized international experience back home to The Bahamas. Having served for years on the board of directors for an entrepreneurial development foundation in the United States, he has spent decades developing targeted programs to increase Black and minority-owned business success in competitive markets.
Now, Dr. Cooper is channeling that entire global playbook into the Grand Bahama business ecosystem, adding a vital spiritual dimension that he believes is the ultimate differentiator.
To anchor this economic vision with impeccable professional guidance, Dr. Cooper has assembled a powerhouse leadership team to serve on the Board of Directors for Redemption Missions. He has brought together some of Grand Bahama’s leading business leaders, including prominent figures who serve on the Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce. Possessing decades of extensive, proven leadership in commerce, these board members are true marketplace role models. They are successfully integrating Kingdom principles as the absolute bedrock of their own commercial enterprises and are deeply committed to providing the oversight necessary to ensure the absolute success of the Good Success Program.
"True prosperity isn't just about profit margins or market share," says Dr. Cooper. "We are championing the concept of Good Success—entrepreneurial achievement that is intentionally undergirded by biblical principles. When integrity, faith, and diligence guide your business vision, you build a venture that can withstand economic storms and generate genuine community impact. I’ve seen firsthand how structured development changes lives in the U.S., and backed by a stellar board of our premier local business minds, I am incredibly proud to bring these proven strategies home to empower our people in Freeport."
Overcoming the Roadblocks to Business Ownership
The Good Success Program is intentionally structured to target and eliminate the primary reasons new businesses fail: lack of planning, isolation, and a shortage of early-stage capital.
The 10-month experience tackles these hurdles through four unique pillars:
Practical, Principled Training: Participants engage in monthly workshops covering critical, real-world topics like business planning, strategic marketing, financial management, operations, and scaling—all integrated with relevant biblical principles.
One-on-One Field Mentorship: Every participant is paired with an experienced mentor in their field. Through monthly mentor meetings, entrepreneurs receive tailored business strategy, personal accountability, and spiritual guidance.
Professional Technical Assistance: Aspiring founders aren't left to guess. They receive hands-on guidance to refine their ideas into a fully developed, actionable business plan alongside review sessions from seasoned industry professionals.
The Seed Funding Initiative: Recognizing that access to capital is a major hurdle, the cohort works collaboratively on a fundraising strategy. At the conclusion of the program, participants receive seed support—including direct financial aid or vital in-kind resources like equipment—to confidently launch or expand their venture.
By the time a participant graduates, they will possess a complete business plan, a vetted network of professionals, increased competence, and the tangible seed resources required to execute their vision.
